Testing and Tagging Regulations
Ever checked the testing and tagging regulations and wondered what they actually meant? We're here to simplify things for you. Our guide to the testing and tagging regulations helps you cut through.
The big, number one reason, for regular testing of electrical equipment is to ensure the safety of people using the equipment. Regular testing and tagging can also spot minor faults that can be repaired early and more cost effectively than if a major fault occurs, sparking a breakdown and expensive repair.
Testing and tagging should only be carried out by
someone who has the appropriate electrical work licence
and in accordance with testing and tagging regulations.
Queensland testing and tagging regulations, with regards to the intervals at which testing and tagging must be carried out, varies according to industry, equipment and other factors.
Let’s break those down, industry by industry, for easy reference.

Who Can Test Electrical Equipment?
As it is an offence under the Electrical Safety Act 2002 for anyone other than a ‘competent’ person with the appropriate training, expertise and qualifications (current Electrical Work licence) to carry out electrical testing and tagging, it’s extremely important that you contact and engage and properly qualified, licensed, electrical contractor.
